Grand Island Senior High Testing Program





Grade 10   
PLAN -  a standardized test that consists of four academic areas:  English, mathematics, reading, and science reasoning.  An additional component includes an interest inventory and planning guide for students and parents.  This test is given free to all sophomores. The PLAN is a preliminary indicator of ACT scores.

ASSET  - a standardized test consisting of three achievement areas:  English, reading and mathematics.  This test is given by community colleges for placement purposes.  Upper level sophomores who are enrolled in dual credit classes for their junior year take this test in the sophomore year. The ASSET is administered at GISH twice during the school year.

       
Grade 11   

PSAT - a standardized test for college entrance and national merit scholarship.  This optional test is administered in the fall of the junior year.  There is a charge to the student.  Self-selected sophomores may also take this test for practice.

ASVAB - a standardized test offered by the military which measures aptitudes on various areas in the work world, but particularly in service oriented occupations.  This test is optional and is offered to junior and seniors every year in September.

ACT - standardized test for fulfilling college entrance requirements for most Mid-western colleges and for scholarship consideration.  This test is administered at GISH five times throughout the school year.  There is a charge.  GISH recommends that students take the ACT once or twice during the spring semester of their junior year and once or twice during the fall semester of their senior year.

Grade 12   
SAT -  a standardized test for fulfilling college entrance requirements for most East/West colleges and for scholarship consideration.  This test is administered at GISH three times during the school year.  Seniors who are planning to attend an out of state college requiring the SAT are encouraged to take this test.  There is a charge.  National Merit Semi-finalists must take the SAT early in the fall semester of their senior year.  To register or find test dates, go to www.collegeboard.com.
