The State Junior Olympic Cross Country Meet was held at Seymour-Smith Park in Omaha. Five runners represented Grand Island: Colin Appel, Hailey Schmidt, Alexis Thompson, Seth Meharg from Grand Island Senior High, and Megan Billington from Westridge.
All of the Grand Island runners qualified for the USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships on December 11th in Hoover, AL. In order to qualify, runners’ had to finish in the top 10 in their age division. (None of the GI contingency is planning on running at Nationals).
Unfortunately, the number of competitors was very small, especially for a meet held in Omaha. Also, the times for the runners seemed slow; all of the courses were considerably long as noted above.
Congratulations to Hailey, Alexis, Colin, and Seth for QUALIFYING for NATIONALS!
