Both teams ran extremely well and were very competitive. The girls were impressive considering they faced preseason #1 ranked (and defending Class A Champion) Norfolk, #3 PLVS, and #4 LSW. Hailey Schmidt and Tera McVicker cut over 30 seconds from their times here last year. Newcomers Alexis Thompson and Nadine Seivers, a foreign exchange student from Germany, ran extremely well as did Bailee Glade who missed last year with an injury.
The boys faced stiff competition with preseason ranked #10's (tied) LSW and PLVS. Seth Meharg ran an impressive race finishing in the top 10 to lead the pack of Islander boys. Alex Hart ran almost 45 seconds faster than he did last year at this meet. Freshmen Coln Appel and Luke McGregor had outstanding races! Finishing the scoring was Tanner McLaren. Finally, after two years of trying to get the team to run as a group from the start, the boys accomplished that! 400m into the race, the top 5 were within 4 seconds of one another while Carter and Jaden were only about 7 seconds back. A mile later, Seth was in the second chase group - 8th overall - with Alex, Colin, Luke, and Tanner about 15 seconds back.
Though many on the team had a great race, two individual performances really stood out; kudos' to Andrea Voss and Alex Hart for outstanding performances!!
The team travels to the University of South Dakota Invite tomorrow.
