The Islander boys showed tremendous improvement over their last outing at Millard South by placing third at the Norfolk Invitational on a tie-breaker involving their #6 runner Carter Duis. Since Carter finished ahead of PLVS #6 runner, GI placed third. The boys attacked the race from the start, running in a pack. By the time the race ended, senior Seth Meharg lead the field by 4 seconds; he was joined in the top 10 by freshmen Colin Appel who finished 8th. The boys field included State ranked Fremont (1), Millard West (9), Burke (T10) and PLVS (T10). Alex Hart (26), Tanner McClaren (34), and Luke McGregor (41) rounded out the Islander scoring.
On the girls side, the Islanders ran into the top three teams in the state, PLVS (1), Millard West (2), and Norfolk (3), as well as state ranked Fremont (T7) and Burke (T7). The team was once again lead by sophomore Hailey Schmidt (30) who ran 56 seconds faster than last year. Helping the Islander cause were senior Bailee Glade (42), sophomore Alexis Thompson (43), sophomore Tera McVicker (45) and senior foreign exchange student Nadine Sievers (52).
