The Islander Boys Cross Country team, competing without one of its top five runner’s, competed extremely well at the Norfolk Invitational.  The boys’ field included Nebraska State ranked teams Millard West #1, Fremont #3, Papillion-LaVista South #6, and Omaha Burke #10.  Regionally ranked Yankton, SD won the meet.  Pacing the boys was Chase McClaren; his 13th place time of 17:37.1 was almost 80 seconds faster than he ran last year at this meet.  His brother, Tanner, cut almost 64 seconds off of his last years time finishing 29th in 18:23.8.  Sophomore Austin Appel, 35th, improved his time by nearly 74 seconds by finishing in 18:46.7.

The girls’ competition was even tougher as regionally ranked Yankton, SD won the meet. Nebraska ranked Class A #1 Papillion-LaVista South, #2 Norfolk, #3,Millard West,  #5 Fremont, and #9 Omaha Burke competed.  The Islander’s also were running without their number two runner Tera McVicker.  The team was lead by freshman Hailey Schmidt who finished 41st in a respectable time of 18:29.

The Islanders compete next Thursday, September 24th when they host their own Invitational at Indianhead Golf Course beginning at 4PM.
