Meet Information: Pioneer Park, West Van Dorn and Coddington Ave., Lincoln, NE  (I-80 to Highway 77 south towards Beatrice; take West Van Dorn exit to Pioneer Park.  Alternate route: I-80 to Crete exit at Highway 103; go south to Highway 6; turn east/left to town of Emerald to SW 84th/Spur 55A; turn south/right to West VanDorn; turn east/left to Pioneer Park)

The Islander girls placed seventh at the A-1 District Cross Country Meet held at Pioneer’s Park.  Freshmen Hailey Schmidt, lead the girls by qualifying for the State Meet next Friday at the Kearney Country Club by placing 13th.  Her time of 16:33.3 was an improvement of nearly 5 seconds off her previous course best set last week at the HAC Meet.  The girls were without two of their top four runners – senior Maren Mykkeltveit with an injury and freshmen Tera McVicker with illness. Senior Erin Sheffield, competing with a hip injury, turned in a courageous effort by placing 36th with a time of 18:44.0, an improvement of 13 seconds over her time at the NE Wesleyan Invite at Pioneer’s Park early this season.  Kateri Hiatt (43rd), Chelsea Reeh (44th), and Autumn Kunze (45th) all improved their times for this course.

The boys placed two runners in the top ten lead by senior Chase McClaren in third with a time of 17:01.5 and junior Seth Meharg in seventh with a time of 17:13.0.  Both runner’s qualified for State.  This will be McClaren’s fourth trip to the State Meet and Meharg’s second.  The boys team run extremely well by placing fifth overall.  The top six Islander boys all ran PR’s for the tough Pioneer’s Park course with Tanner McClaren (27th) cutting 33 seconds, Alex Hart (34th) cutting 57 seconds, and Jaden Hesman (48th) improving by 19 seconds.  Rounding out the Islander Team was sophomore Carter Duis (49th) in a time of 19:56.8.
