Young local dancers let loose to celebrate the great Dr. Seuss!

No matter where you were, the anticipation was palpable.

In the Shoemaker Elementary School gym were hundreds of students who came to school early to fill the bleachers, many of them sporting striped “The Cat in the Hat”-style hats.

Just outside the gym wall, a couple dozen girls excitedly stretched and did jumping jacks while a gaggle of proud mothers snapped pictures.

There was good reason for all that energy. Thursday was the last day before spring break for Shoemaker students, and Smitty’s Performing Arts Center’s Extreme Team was about to perform a dance medley from “Seussical,” the Broadway musical based on the works of Dr. Seuss.  Full Story
