GRAND ISLAND —
Art is a passion.
Doug Jensen, assistant principal at Grand Island Senior High, gave that
message to about 140 third- through fifth-grade students Tuesday.
Jensen noted that his day job is working at Senior High, but that when
he goes home, he enjoys making sculptures, especially of Doberman
pinschers, which he both breeds for competition and judges in
competition.
"This is exactly what a Doberman looks like," Jensen said, showing his artwork.
The assistant principal told the students that the first time he tried
to create a full-size Doberman, it took him four years to get the clay
model right.
Now, he can make a sculpture of a full-size Doberman in a much shorter
amount of time, but it is still never a quick process. Even after he
takes a clay sculpture to Art Castings of Colorado, Jensen said, it
takes the foundry another six weeks to create the final sculpture.
