The traffic detoured off First Street to Koenig Street has the principal at Wasmer Elementary School concerned about the safety of her students.

"Oh, my goodness," Betty Desaire said when asked about the detour.

First Street from Greenwich to Eddy has been closed since Monday and will remain so through Nov. 20 for pavement replacement. Traffic has been detoured south on Greenwich to Koenig, east on Koenig to Eddy and then north on Eddy back to First Street. No parking is allowed along the detour, and Greenwich has been made into a one-way street along the detour route, said Steve Riehle, public works director.

A traffic count on First Street taken prior to the detour was at 7,779 vehicles per day, Riehle said.  Full Story
