Wasmer Elementary teacher receives $2,000 grant to buy technology equipment

Wasmer Elementary School fourth-grade teacher Patty Brown has received a $2,000 Teach Award grant from Best Buy to purchase four iPods and a laptop computer for her classroom.

Wasmer had a school assembly Thursday to celebrate receiving the grant.

Brown plans to use the technology for a number of purposes, including helping students improve their reading fluency.

Students will take home an iPod and a book, then read it aloud and record themselves. The recording will allow students to evaluate their fluency, the grant application said. The recording will be saved for a personal CD of each student's reading for the year, allowing the parents to also hear the student's growth.  Full Story
