If Steve Joel successfully negotiates a new contract with the Lincoln Public Schools, he’ll leave more than a vacant superintendent’s job behind in Grand Island.

Joel, who has been the Grand Island Public Schools’ superintendent for the past 10 years, also has served on a number of boards in the city.

On Tuesday evening, the board for the Lincoln Public Schools officially offered Joel the job as that district’s next superintendent. That does not mean Joel officially has the job because it has been reported his hiring is contingent on a successful negotiation of a final contract.

The position has been advertised at $255,000, although it has been reported that number is flexible and that the complete package is subject to negotiation. Still, most people contacted by The Independent on Wednesday are assuming the contract will get signed and Joel will be moving to Lincoln.  Full Story
