Two new school resource officers are at work

For more then 10 years, Grand Island police officers have roamed the halls of Grand Island Public Schools.

They teach classes, investigate abuse claims, take theft reports, and develop a rapport with the students.

The school resource officer program was started roughly 12 years ago and has grown to include five officers. This school year, which kicked off Wednesday for GIPS, brings two new officers into the fold. Officer Josh Lubrano fills the position at Walnut Middle School left vacant when Rick Ressel retired, and Ben Arrants took over duties at Westridge Middle School when Butch Hurst became the public information officer for the Police Department.  Full Story
