Two G.I. Public Schools students selected for multi-state honor choir

Two Grand Island Public Schools students have been selected for the fifth- and sixth-grade honor choir for the North Central Division of the American Choral Directors Association.

The honor choir will perform at the association's convention on March 6, 2010, in Minneapolis, said Larry Decker, a Grand Island Public Schools elementary school music teacher.

Gabrielle Foley, a fifth-grade student at Gates Elementary School, and Maria Toner, a sixth-grade student at Barr Middle School, were the only two Grand Island singers selected for the choir and are among 12 Nebraskans picked for the 87-person choir, Decker said.

The North Central Division of the ACDA includes North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Students selected for the honor choir live in those states.
