Students from Seedling Mile and Wasmer elementary schools on Thursday presented Sudanese immigrant Yaunis Andindi with a check for $233 to help pay for gasoline to power a tractor in Sudan.

The presentation was made during a short ceremony at Seedling Mile Elementary. In addition to Andindi, several students from Wasmer Elementary’s Character Council, Wasmer Principal Betty Desaire and Wasmer counselor Cammie See also witnessed the ceremony.

Andindi told the students how he left Sudan for Egypt, where he lived until he received the necessary immigration papers to come to the United States.

He said he first lived in Minnesota before he and his family moved to Grand Island about three years ago. Although he now lives in America, he still thinks about the people in Sudan, which is the largest country in Africa.  Full Story
