Shoemaker receives emotional lesson on bullying

Shoemaker and Lincoln elementary schools have teamed up to bring ventriloquist and illusionist Kevin Horner from Bonner Springs, Kan., to Grand Island for a presentation on bullying.
"When we scheduled the visit, we talked about our beliefs and what we teach our kids and how it aligns with his teachings," Shoemaker Principal Lee Wolfe said. "It went together really well."
Bullying is being addressed districtwide in kindergarten through fifth grade. Posters are present in each classroom, and three or four bullying lessons per classroom are given by counselors.
Horner said his presentation today at Shoemaker, titled "Speak Up for Those Who Won't Speak Up for Themselves," is an effort to cover the definition of bullying, what it looks like, sounds like and feels like and safe ways that kids can report it.
