Shoemaker entrance and exit finished in time for start of school

Students and staff will not have to use a drawbridge to get to Shoemaker Elementary.

Construction crews have been working on a classroom addition for Shoemaker. Dan Petsch, Grand Island public schools director of buildings and grounds, always knew those new classrooms would not be ready for the start of school on Aug. 19.

But this spring's and summer's rainy weather was starting to make him nervous about the progress being made on the paving project for the school parking lot, with particular concern centering on the entrance and exit to the school.

Late this week, Petsch finally began breathing a little easier.  Full Story
