Shoemaker addition behind schedule, but coming along

Work on the Shoemaker Elementary addition is a little behind schedule.

Nevertheless, Dan Petsch, director of buildings and grounds for the Grand Island Public Schools, is hoping the classroom addition will be finished so “we can move in Oct. 1 or sooner.”

But that is only phase one of the project, Petsch said. The second phase is razing the Shoemaker Annex and creating a staff parking lot.

Petsch said the Shoemaker entrance will be moved farther to the west. That move, combined with driveway improvements at Shoemaker, should result in a big improvement in safety as students are dropped off and picked up from school.  Full Story
