Senior High special education teacher receives Dinsdale Award

Michella Honas thought she and her students were going to an assembly at Grand Island Senior High about swine flu Wednesday morning.

That was the ruse co-workers used to get the special education teacher to come across the street for the ceremony naming the recipient of the annual Kim West Dinsdale Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Only gradually did Honas realize that the assembly was not about swine flu and she was about to receive the honor, which also includes $5,000 for the person who represents “a shining example of teaching excellence.”

Honas said she started recognizing herself in some of the descriptions students used to support her nomination.  Full Story
