Schools offering summer food program

The Grand Island Public Schools are sponsoring a summer food service program for children at 11 schools starting June 2, said Kris Spellman, nutrition services director.

Breakfast will be offered at the schools from June 2 until summer school ends on June 30 for elementary schools and on July 1 for Barr and Walnut middle schools. Meals will be served Mondays through Fridays at every school except for Barr, which will serve meals Mondays through Thursdays.

No meals will be served on July 5, Spellman said.


Any children ages 1 through 18 years old may participate. No application is required and participants do not have to meet any income level guidelines. An adult may purchase a meal for $3.

Reservations are not required. However, any groups with 10 or more people are asked to call 384-2986 before 8 a.m. the day they want to eat.  Full Story
