Schools find many uses for synthetic-turf fields

Other ADs agree with Kutlas’ assessment

Once a school puts in synthetic turf for its football field, the facility gets scheduled just as heavily as a basketball gymnasium.

That’s what Activities Director Joe Kutlas told the Grand Island school board just before getting the board’s permission to seek bids on installing synthetic turf on the football field at Memorial Stadium.

Darin Williams, activities director and assistant principal at Omaha Central High School, gave a hearty amen to the idea that a synthetic turf football field could be as heavily scheduled as a high school basketball gym.

Williams said Omaha Central installed synthetic turf four years ago, prompting an immediate barrage of requests from outside organizations wanting to use the field.  Full Story
