GRAND ISLAND —
All available evidence indicates that a new gym floor will not have to be installed at the new Engleman Elementary.

Earlier this year, a vandal or vandals broke into the school, which is being enlarged and renovated to serve as the new Engleman, and turned on a water valve, flooding the gym floor.

Several other areas also were flooded.

The water caused the gym floor to swell. School officials feared that the entire floor would have to be replaced.

However, Dan Petsch, director of building and grounds, said he and a gym floor installer recently examined the floor and discovered "that the moisture was at an acceptable level for this time of year."  Full Story
