School districts cautious in closing schools two straight days

It took two days, but Grand Island public schools students are finally returning to class on Thursday.

So are students from Northwest public schools and Central Catholic.

Because so many students at Northwest High School travel to school from the rural areas surrounding Grand Island, it is not unusual for that school system either to cancel school or announce a late start to the school day.

However, officials Grand Island public schools typically are a little more hesitant to cancel school because their students typically live within the city limits.  Full Story
