School district shows off Success Academy to public

It's a perfect match - the name and the feeling when walking through the doors of the new Grand Island Public School Success Academy.

Gone are the double-wide trailers that have sat south of Grand Island Senior High since 1980 at the corner of Lafayette and State streets. In their place is a modern, high-tech, brick and block building that emits an aura of caring, high expectations and positive destiny for middle school and high school students needing an alternative education.
"It feels good to wake up and get here for school -- instead of just sleeping in," said Nick Schneider.

Schneider had a 0.48 grade point average last year as a sophomore at Senior High. He had moved from Idaho and found it difficult to make the transition in the differences in curriculum.

"I was doing my homework -- when I could find it to hand in," Schneider said, noting his organizational challenges.
