School district demolishing former railroad house

Demolition work is under way on a house at Stolley Park Road and Adams Street that the school district purchased in 2009.

Dan Petsch, Grand Island Public Schools director of buildings and grounds, said the contractor for the job has already done some preliminary salvage and demolition work on the inside of the home.

This week, work on the project has become a little more visible, with crews removing shingles from the roof, he said.

Petsch said he has been told the home once served as a railroad station in Rockville. That has created interest in some quarters in seeing whether someone might be interested in saving the building.  Full Story
