The Grand Island school board is poised to hire McPherson & Jacobson as the search firm to help it find its next superintendent.

Board members interviewed Randy Nelson of McPherson and Jacobson of Omaha Wednesday night, as well as representatives from Ray & Associates of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates of Glenview, Ill.

Each company was given 15 minutes to introduce itself to the board, with the interviews then consisting of each board member asking one of eight questions that had been scripted in advance of Wednesday's meeting.

As the interviews progressed, each board member wrote down scores for how well each of those questions were answered.

When scores were tallied at the end of the evening, McPherson & Jacobson led with 275 points, Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates was second with 244 points and Ray & Associates as third with 237 points.

Board member Jane Meidlinger, though, said she was uncomfortable with the rapid timeline proposed by McPherson & Jacobson. Nelson passed out the timeline to the board, saying that in normal circumstances, a search would take at least eight to 10 weeks.  Full Story
