The Grand Island school board Tuesday night approved Phase II of its school staff plan for 2010-11.
The total cost of the plan is $156,540.
The plan makes an upward adjustment in salary for special education supervisors, reorganizes nursing services so that registered nurses will replace licensed practical nurses in school buildings with more than 500 students, provides extended contract days to provide higher salaries for school speech pathologists, and re-structures integration specialist stipends to provide a “more equitable stipend that includes elementary and secondary integration specialists.”
Salaries also will be increased for classified clerical and bookkeeping positions, which have added responsibilities because of changes to the district’s financial and human services software.
Finally, a new public relations/transitions coordinator will be hired to work with parents as they make choices on which school their children will attend, especially as parents make those choices at the kindergarten, sixth-grade and ninth-grade levels.
The board also approved contracts with Father Flanagan’s Boys Home and Uta Halee Girls Village for educational services provided to Grand Island students who could not be served in the Grand Island school district.
