Senior High Principal Kent Mann will give a report to the Grand Island school board Thursday night on the estimated number of pedestrian crossings on College Street at Senior High.

In other action, the board will hear about a proposed extended school day at Senior High for students who are "credit deficient" when it comes to being on track to graduate within four years and it will be asked to issuing up to $5.5 million in Build America bonds to help build a centralized kitchen for the school district.

Superintendent Steve Joel said Mann's report should give an estimate on the number of daily crossings made on College Street at Senior High by students and to a lesser extent, high school faculty. Joel said he also expects Mann's report to give estimates on the average number of times vehicular traffic failed to give way to student pedestrians.

Joel said Mann's report will be an informational item only. After hearing the report, board members can decided whether they may want to put an item on the November agenda to ask the Grand Island City Council to close College Street between Lafayette and Custer Streets.  Full Story
