GRAND ISLAND —
The TeamMates program in Grand Island currently has 99 matches in six schools.
The Grand Island school board received that information Thursday night
from a written and oral report presented by Nancy Jones, executive
director of the TeamMates program.
TeamMates will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2009, Jones said.
Locally, the TeamMates program is in its second year of being supported
by the Grand Island Public Schools.
TeamMates is a school-based mentoring program that matches an adult to
act as a mentor for a student. Under the program, an adult meets with a
student one hour per week at school.
The TeamMates program in Nebraska was co-founded by Tom and Nancy Osborne.
