CREDITSTARTharold.reutter@theindependent.comWith Real Grass synthetic turf going down on the ground, the field at Grand Island Senior High's Memorial Stadium is starting to look like it has a real grass surface on it for the first time this summer.

Dan Petsch, director of buildings and grounds for the Grand Island Public Schools, said the work crew began putting down the Real Grass synthetic turf last week and continued working through the weekend. Members of the work crew worked from the north end of the field to the south.

By Monday afternoon, they had gone from behind the north goal post to about the 20-yard line on the south side. However, Petsch said that rapid progress does not mean the work on the field is nearly finished.

Workers still had to put down the synthetic surface on the perimeter of the field, outside the football field's out-of-bounds lines.  Full Story
