Second-graders at Shoemaker Elementary were hosting a Reading Restaurant today to promote reading, building reading skills, sharing with adults and practicing fluency.

“We do this to give the kids an opportunity to show their family what they have been practicing in class,” second-grade teacher Trisha Hedman said. “Reading to a parent is one of the most important things kids do to help encourage reading, and at home it’s hard to get that time.”

The kids were asked to wear white shirts and dark pants to resemble restaurant servers. Each guest was provided a menu of poems, short stories and selections from books.  Full Story
