Program reaches out to youths in justice system

Grand Island Senior High teacher Jeff Hofeldt feels a pilot program for youths in the criminal justice system shows enough potential that it should be continued.

Senior High Principal Kent Mann said the program grew out of a Heartland United Way planning meeting, where members decided to undertake a program to help “adjudicated youth,” Mann said.

All the candidates had become involved with the local court system and all for more serious offenses than minor in possession of alcohol, Mann said.

“This was not a case of a young person making one bad decision,” Mann said.  Full Story
