New math curriculum more aligned with state standards

Math anxiety does not just afflict students.

It also impacts parents who worry they cannot understand the math concepts being taught in today’s schools well enough to help with their children’s homework.

Sometimes, that anxiety can even affect the parents trying to help with elementary-level homework.


With the adoption this year of a new math curriculum by the Grand Island Public Schools, some parents’ anxiety level perhaps got kicked up another notch when their children began bringing home math homework.

Deb Harder, director of elementary teaching and learning, said the new curriculum names are Math Expressions for K-5 students, Math Innovations for sixth- and seventh-grade students and College Preparatory Math for eighth-grade students.

That trio collectively replaces the Trailblazers K-5 math curriculum and the Connected Math 6-8 curriculum.  Full Story
