Grand Island Senior High students love heart shapes, love and amor.

With one day to go on the GISH student council’s sale of "Yuda" bracelets, all those styles were gone.

The wrist bands are not just a fashion accessory for young people, however. Student council members and GISH sophomores Mayra Pantoja and Alexa McCallum said proceeds from the bands will help pay for the education of students in Guatemala, Haiti and Moldova.

For every 175 wrist bands sold at $7 each, one student can receive one year of education. As of Thursday, GISH students had purchased enough wrist bands to educate two students for a full year and a third student for most of an academic year.

Student council teacher sponsors Sarah Wolf and Trisha Paul said the project was within 50 wristbands of buying an entire academic year of education for a third student. They said a final push was on to sell another 50 bracelets before the project ends on Friday.  Full Story
