Knickrehm Elementary School students and their parents may have to get up a little earlier on Monday in order to get to school on time.

Monday is when construction work at Capital Avenue begins in order to double track the BNSF rail lines there.

Vehicle traffic will be down to one lane under the Capital Avenue elevated rail.

"Due to safety issues, the pedestrian tunnel at Capital will be closed for at least three to four months until the tunnel has been extended and the surrounding work is complete," said Joe Faust, director of public affairs for BNSF Railway.

"There is another tunnel about 200 feet to the southeast," said Bill Harris of SEMA Construction of Centennial, Colo., noting a possible alternative route for students who walk or ride bikes to school.  Full Story
