Local businessman gives start-of-year pep talk to G.I. teachers

GRAND ISLAND —
Grand Island businessman Scott Zana praised Grand Island Public Schools teachers for the commitment and energy they bring to their jobs.

Zana, who owns three Arby's restaurants, noted that teachers are committed to educating all students who walk through their classroom doors "regardless of background. That's a tall order."

He offered teachers some advice on how they should approach the coming school year.

First, Zana said, "think the right kind of thoughts." He noted that a plant placed inside a glass jar grows no bigger than the jar. But if the jar is removed, the plant can grow many times that container's size.

Zana asked teachers if they sometimes walk into a classroom and have mental parameters on what they think certain students can accomplish. Resisting that temptation is a tough job.  Full Story
