Lightning, rain cut short GISH pep rally

Lightning and the threat of rain shortened the fall sports pep rally at Grand Island Senior High Monday.

The sky opened up just as people filed off of the Islanders football field. But despite the impending weather, students, teachers, parents and grandparents showed up to support the Islanders' fall sports teams.

Randy Barlow said he was there not only to watch his daughter, Skyler, who is a cheerleader, but also the rest of the kids.

"We're out here supporting the whole group," he said. "They are getting ready for the new year."

That's just what GISH Activities Director Joe Kutlas hoped would happen.  Full Story
