Fourteen bands from seven cities were on the schedule on Monday for the Grand Island Senior High Jazz Band Festival.

"We have high school bands coming in from all over the state," GISH Director of Bands Louie Eckhardt said. "We have three clinicians that come in and work with the bands after their performances. Each band is adjudicated, assigned a rating and awarded a plaque, and we have outstanding soloist awards as well."

Clinicians for the festival are Marc LaChance, professor of music at Hastings College; Duane Bierman, professor of music and director of bands at the University of Nebraska at Kearney; and Derek McDonald, doctoral student at the University of Colorado Boulder and a freelance trumpeter in the Denver area.  Full Story
