It’s show time

Backstage a busy place as show choirs get ready to compete

The smell of hairspray, nervous laughter and last-minute clothing adjustments fill the final moments before a show choir hits the performance stage.

On Saturday, the vocal music room at Grand Island Senior High School became last check central as nearly 20 high school show choirs prepared to take part in the Islander Invitational Show Choir Competition.

After warming up and going through their routine, members of GISH’s Future Image show choir ran to get drinks from the water fountain, secured bobby pins in their hair, practiced steps and checked their reflections in the music room’s enormous mirror.

Before heading down the hall to the backstage area, the group received a few final instructions from director Jesse LaBrie — connect with the audience, sell the character and have fun.  Full Story
