In aftermath of Feb. 3 scare, GISH administrators outline safety measures

Grand Island Superintendent Steve Joel said if he had a chance to do the events of Feb. 3 over again, he would do one thing differently.

He would not tell Senior High Principal Kent Mann to include a suggestion that parents could come to the school to pick up their children if they were concerned about their safety.

Joel said he made the suggestion because some parents already had come to Senior High to withdraw their children from school.

Those parents went to Senior High after a number of police officers came to school that morning in response to rumors about possible retaliation because of a shooting that had occurred the previous Friday night.  Full Story
