Howard teacher: 'I've got the best job in the world'

For the last 40 years, Lynda Fickes has been teaching first-grade students at Howard Elementary School in Grand Island.

It is her first and only teaching job after graduating from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

"I never taught anywhere else," Fickes said. "I was green as grass when I started here."

Over the years she has gained a reputation for teaching excellence and she was recently announced as the winner of the 2009 Ike Friedman Leadership Award from the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben Foundation.  Full Story
