Howard Elementary students got a great example Tuesday of what “Living Above the Line” can do when second-grade teacher Teresita “Tess” Westover was presented with the annual Kim West Dinsdale Award for Excellence in Teaching.

The award was presented during the school’s monthly Character Eduction assembly, which made for a perfect setting to surprise Westover. She had no idea she was going be recognized. The honor includes a check for $5,000 presented on behalf of the Kim West Dinsdale Endowment Fund.

Equally surprised was Westover’s husband, Leslie, a Walnut Middle School social studies teacher who had been to the assembly to give a few tips to the K-5 students about displaying good character.  Full Story
