Howard students get lesson in Chinese culture

Ni hão from China.

Ni hão is "hello" in Mandarin Chinese, as Howard Elementary students learned during a third- through fifth-grade assembly Wednesday morning.

Martial arts master Lu Shao jun used that greeting as he demonstrated two forms of martial arts, one consisting of slow-motion movements known as tai chi and the second consisting of much more rapid, powerful movements.

Lu's appearance at Howard was part of a program called "An Introduction to Chinese Culture" that brought six visitors from China to the school.

Fellow cultural ambassador Wang Shuhong had teachers pick two separate groups of students to come to the front of the gym to mimic Lu's motions as he led them through the quick, more powerful movements.  Full Story
