Holiday Cheer: GISH Cheerleaders headed to London

Becoming an All-American cheerleader is an honor.

Last summer, three senior cheerleaders from Grand Island Senior High - Skyler Barlow, Haven Mattingly and Sonia Almodovar - earned that honor.

Those three were part of the Senior High cheerleading squad that traveled last summer to Okoboji, Iowa, for a three-day camp that taught cheerleaders about lifts, throws and tumbling passes.

But a portion of the camp was spent with Universal Cheer Association (UCA) officials judging how well high school cheerleaders performed both a cheer and dance routine they had been taught the previous day. UCA judges included both adults and college cheerleaders.  Full Story
