Clarinetist Jennifer Schneider and six of her fellow band members had the chance to go pro for a night, sitting in with the U.S. Air Force band for a piece during the group’s Monday night concert.

“I’m a little nervous,” Schneider said, just before the curtain went up. “It’s going to be a lot of fun. I'll either get it or I won't. Hopefully, if I don't, no one can hear.”

The U.S. Air Force Heartland of America Concert Band played at Grand Island Senior High, covering everything from John Philip Sousa to Glenn Miller. The students joined the band for a rendition of Sousa’s “Easter Monday on the White House Lawn.” The band is based at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha.

Senior High’s band director said he hoped the experience would give his students an appreciation for what it takes to be a high caliber musician.  Full Story
