GRAND ISLAND —
There's a big splash of color going up on the walls of the Conestoga Mall.
Grand Island's Community Youth Council (CYC) is sponsoring a youth art
contest that turned into an art project of its own, said CYC
representative Sammy Saiyavongsa.
The mall gave permission for the art contest entries to be displayed at
the mall in January, but wondered if area art students wanted to create
a permanent exhibit there as well -- a mural.
So Wednesday afternoon, members of the CYC and the Grand Island Senior High Art Club set out to begin the mural.
"Everybody got a pencil?" asked Senior High art instructor Doug Whitman.
The Art Club had stylized the CYC's logo and traced it onto the center
of the 24-foot-by-12-foot-long blank wall just south of Younkers near
the mall offices.
