Grand Island Public Schools could lose anywhere from $2 million to $4 million in state aid for the 2010-11 school year, according to preliminary analysis by GIPS business manager Virgil Harden.

Harden said Wednesday that he had a copy of Sen. Greg Adams' LB5, which adjusts the state aid formula, but had not had an opportunity to read all the way through it. He also had a summary of the bill that outlined the major changes that would be made to the state aid formula to lower the cost to state government.

Harden said he understands the goal is to cut a total of $47 million in state aid to K-12 education for the 2010-11 budget year.

If Grand Island loses $2 million to $4 million in state aid, it should be able to deal with the loss without resorting to any staff cuts, Harden said.  Full Story
