Martin Klein of the Hall County Attorney’s office told the Grand Island school board Thursday night that he believes the “attendance court” program by the school district and Hall County is working.
Klein said the system involves monitoring student attendance, then sending out a first letter to the family that talks about the need for a student to improve attendance.
That is followed by a second letter, which is then followed by the family working with school officials on an “attendance plan” to improve student attendance at school.
The next step is a hearing, which Klein said he conducts. Those hearings have picked up the nickname of attendance court. The hearings typically has the student, parents, school social workers, school principal and Klein working to identify issues that might be causing poor attendance.
