GRAND ISLAND —
The total levy for the Grand Island Public Schools is scheduled to drop slightly as a result of a valuation increase for the district.

The Grand Island school board will have a 2008-09 budget workshop at 6:30 p.m. Thursday to review the proposed spending plan.

Business manager Virgil Harden will lead the budget review. The board will be asked to approve the budget at its regular monthly meeting on Sept. 11.

Harden said the proposed total levy -- including the general fund, special building fund and bond funds -- will be $1.197 per $100  of value.

For the 2207-08 school year, Grand Island's total levy was $1.21 per $100 of property value.  Full Story
