GRAND ISLAND —
Holiday Express Inc. has been hired by the Grand Island school board to provide student transportation to school for the 2008-09 school year.

The district will pay the company $243,936 for the transportation system, although the contract is pro-rated so that the actual cost may go up or down depending on whether the company runs routes on more or fewer days.

Having school called off because of snow would mean fewer bus routes are run during the school year, with the district paying a little less money.

Currently, one route has been established for Senior High, one for Barr Middle School and one for Walnut Middle School.

Barr and Walnut middle schools also will have extracurricular bus routes for students who want to participate in school activities that run before or after the regular school day.  Full Story
