Grand Island Public Schools honors teachers for their work

GRAND ISLAND —
Six
Grand Island Public School staff members were recognized for the
excellence of their work Friday afternoon by the Grand Island Education
Foundation and Platte Valley State Bank.
The honors came during a district back-to-school to welcome new
teachers into the district and welcome veteran teachers for another
year.
Jan Vavricek of Jefferson Elementary was recognized as Elementary
Teacher of the Year, Rhonda Riha of Walnut Middle School was recognized
as Middle School Teacher of the Year and Michella Honas of Grand Island
Senior High was recognized as Senior High Teacher of the Year.
Larry Uhing of Senior High was cited as Specialist/Counselor of the
year, S. Nubia Herreno of Wasmer Elementary was named Staff Member of
the Year and Sue Burch, director of technology, was named Administrator
of the Year.
Vavricek was praised for because she "embraces the challenge of
providing instruction for all modalities of learners and differentiates
her instruction to meet the needs of her diverse student population.
She goes above and beyond to connect with students and demonstrates a
sincere commitment to help each student reach his or her goals."
